Fat Cats invalidate pet insuranceYou may think that you are sitting pretty if you have purchased pet insurance for your family pet but what you don’t know is that this could soon be invalid if you allow your pet to get too fat!

Amazingly more and more pet insurance policies are now adding into the small print terms which may render your insurance useless if it can be proved that your dog, cat or other pet is overweight. And with the latest figures showing that almost 50% of UK pets are ‘obese’ (39% of cats and 47% of dogs) more people than ever are falling foul to this issue.

The overuse of dog and cat treats are said to be partly to blame as vets look for the reasons behind the climbing levels of obesity and all that excess weight can cause even more heartache and trips to the vets in the same way that it can cause problems for us humans.

Osteoarthritis, heart disease and congestive heart failure are all illnesses that result from being overweight and just when you may need your pet insurance most you may actually find that you cannot claim.

The best advice to ensure you do not have this issue is to be careful how many ‘treats’ you give your pet and to try and cut down on their pet food portions.
